As Canada faces critical labour shortages in key industries, the Future Skills Centre (FSC) is investing to build a strong, resilient workforce that can drive Canada’s productivity and long-term economic prosperity. Through the Replicate initiative, funded by the Government of Canada’s Future Skills Program, FSC is widening access to proven training solutions to help more Canadians, particularly those facing barriers to employment, find stable jobs and navigate a changing economy. IM&M+ delivery partners include the provinces of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, PEI and the City of Windsor, with over 80 delivery sites across the partner network.
In 2025, the Canadian Career Development Foundation (CCDF) began delivering In Motion & Momentum+ (IM&M+) for youth aged 15–30 facing barriers to employment, funded through Employment and Social Development Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS). The project supports young people in clarifying their career direction and next steps and developing a realistic path forward. IM&M+ youth deliveries currently take place at 10 sites across five provinces.
With Indigenous Services Canada, CCDF is working to train Indigenous partners to deliver IM&M+ to Indigenous Youth. This project will be completed in 2027.
In 2021, the Canadian Career Development Foundation (CCDF) started the first of six cohorts in an RCT with 13 community partners in five provinces. The active research for the RCT was completed in December 2024. The project follows participants for 12 months. An update to the interim results was published in 2025 (see the Impact), and the final report will be published in 2026.
In conjunction with the RCT, Employment and Skills Development Canada’s Office of Skills for Success granted CCDF a project to test a process of integrating the Skills for Success into pre-employment programming (in this case, IM&M+) and create a self-assessment tool so that participants can see their skills development progression. This project produced:
Improving Labour Market Attachment Through Skills for Success Identification in In Motion & Momentum+, outlining the process for integrating the Skills for Success into pre-employment programming.
Researchers created nine distinct Skills Cards representing each skill category. Cards help participants keep track of times when they used a skill from the frameworks.
This worksheet helps participant track the accumulation of their Skills Card and begin to reflect on how they developed these skills.
A post-pre assessment tool that helps participants assess their own skills development and build a plan for future development. The Snapshot is available free to anyone who wants an easy way to track your skill development.
